WELCOME
Welcome to the 13th edition of PURSUIT, our luxury lifestyle journal dedicated to the remarkable adventures and
experiences that yachting offers. This year's theme, "Wonder List", perfectly captures the essence of exploration and the
unique joys of life on the water, whether through yacht ownership or chartering. Yachting is not just a mode of travel; it
is a gateway to freedom, security, and the creation of lasting memories.
As someone who has been fortunate enough to enjoy numerous yachting voyages with family and friends, this edition
holds a special place in my heart. Each journey has reinforced my belief in the unparalleled beauty and tranquillity
that yachting brings, allowing us to explore uncharted territories and experience the world from a different perspective.
Our front cover features the indomitable Bear Grylls, a symbol of adventure and resilience. Bear's spirit of exploration
and determination mirrors our ethos at Ocean Independence. Just as he overcomes the toughest challenges in the wild, we
navigate through market complexities and situational adversities with the same grit, perseverance, and ultimately, success.
In this edition of PURSUIT, we invite you to delve into stories of extraordinary journeys, discover new destinations,
and get inspired by the limitless possibilities that yachting provides. Whether you are a seasoned yacht Owner or

BEAR GRYLLS
The SURVIVAL expert and TELEVISION adventurer’s life has been defined by
taking extraordinary JOURNEYS. But it is seeing a passion for ADVENTURE grow
in others which excites Bear Grylls the most
ew people are as synonymous with adventure as Bear Grylls. Even his name
conjures images of wild escapades and exhilarating journeys. The television
adventurer, author of nearly 100 books, Chief Scout, entrepreneur, and former
SAS soldier has climbed Everest, paramotored over the Himalayas in -60°
temperatures, survived the frozen tundra of Antarctica and the searing heat of the
Sahara Desert, and trekked through the Alaskan wilderness with former US President
Barack Obama.
“Adventure has been the driving force of my life ever since I can remember,” he
says. “It has been the one constant through so
much.” Grylls was raised on the bucolic Isle of Wight
where his late father, the Tory politician and former
Royal Marine Commando Michael Grylls, sowed the
seed for a lifelong passion for adventure. “He not
only taught me a lot of the survival stuff and how to
climb, but also showed me that it was important not
to be scared to go all in for things in life.”
When Grylls failed selection to join the British
Special Forces reserves, he redoubled his efforts and
succeeded on his second attempt. But after three
years serving in 21 SAS Regiment, a parachute
accident in Southern Africa left him with a broken
back and ended his military career. “It taught me
that life is fragile and if we have a lucky escape then
we have a duty to try to get back up and grab life
with both hands,” he says.
Just 18 months after his accident, Grylls realised a
childhood ambition and at the age of 23 became one of
the youngest people ever to climb Everest. It remains
a defining moment in his life. “The summit itself is
extraordinary: small – like a coffee table, the highest point on our planet, the roof of
the world. Those images of watching the sunrise over Tibet are locked in my heart
forever,” he says. “That expedition changed me in so many ways, and during that time
the mountain claimed four climbers’ lives. That was so hard to come to terms with, but
through it all I have been given a gratitude for life that lasts to this day.”
The experience inspired Grylls to take on a series of outlandish challenges,
including leading a team to circumnavigate the British Isles on jet skis to raise
money for the RNLI; rowing naked in a homemade bathtub along the Thames to
raise funds for a friend who had lost his legs in a climbing accident, and leading a
team of five on an unassisted crossing of the North Atlantic Ocean in an open rigid
inflatable boat.
“I think as humans we are at our best when we have a goal,” he says. “I have
always tried to live like this with clear goals and targets to aim for. I have failed so
many times in my life and that’s OK. In fact, it’s key. Life is all about that spirit of
endeavour and never giving up.”
While Grylls' early television career initially focused on his personal adventures
and survival in extreme conditions with shows such
as “Escape to the Legion”, and “Man vs. Wild”, the
Bear Grylls brand has evolved to instill in others the
sense of wonder that only adventuring can elicit.
From challenging A-list celebrities like Benedict
Cumberbatch, Bradley Cooper, and Kate Winslet to
face the wilderness in "Running Wild with Bear
Grylls", to inspiring the next generation through his
15 years as Chief Scout (he steps down in September
2024), and his continuing role as Chief Ambassador
of World Scouting, Grylls continues to spread his
passion for exploration and resilience. In 2019, he
was made an OBE for services to young people, the
media and charity.
When the cameras stop rolling, Grylls retreats to
his small island hideaway in North Wales with his wife,
Shara, and their three teenage sons. “We have no mains
electricity or water and run everything totally off-grid,
but we love it and are happier there than anywhere else
on Earth,” he says. “To spend time messing around
with our boys on the island is the great privilege of my
life. Sea swims, walks, training together – all those things make me so happy.”
Perhaps it is his joy in sharing extraordinary experiences with others that has
given Bear Grylls’ programmes and projects such universal appeal. “I love seeing
the power of courage, persistence and faith grow in others, whether it is a guest on
"Running Wild" or a young scout camping out for the first time,” he says.
Grylls and his family are going sailing together before he heads to Utah to begin
filming the next season of "Running Wild". “The goal is always to do my best to live
with an adventure state of mind in every moment.”

amed for its staggering natural beauty, cosmopolitan cities, and rich history,
Norway is already a compelling destination. Its vast network of spectacular
sapphire blue fjords and waterways make it unmissable by yacht.
Stretching over 100km in the southeast, the Oslo Fjord provides the perfect
starting point. In the summer months, swim in its refreshing waters, hike among
the colourful cabins on the islands or glide over the waves on a SUP-board. In the
winter, warm up in a fjord-side saunas.
Oslo itself offers a dynamic contrast to the fjord's serene beauty. The calm
waters here are perfect for fishing and watersports, and activities like kayaking and
canoeing let you enjoy the tranquil beauty of the fjord up close.
On the west coast, the historic city of Bergen is a gateway to unspoiled landscapes
where ancient forests rise dramatically from deep fjords and expansive meadows
appear to stretch into the horizon. Further north, the archipelago of Svalbard
presents a strikingly different experience. Situated between mainland Norway and
the North Pole, this remote region is one of the world’s northernmost inhabited
areas; its rugged glaciers and tundra home to polar bears, Svalbard reindeer, and
Arctic foxes. In winter, the Northern Lights create a spectacular, otherworldly
display, while summer brings the "midnight sun," with 24-hour daylight.
eppering the Tyrrhenian Sea just off Sicily’s northeast coast, the Aeolian
Islands form a UNESCO-protected archipelago of volcanic wonder. Comprising
seven distinct islands – Lipari, Panarea, Vulcano, Salina, Stromboli, Alicudi,
and Filicudi – they have long captured imaginations. In ancient Greek mythology,
these islands were believed to be the realm of Aeolus, the God of the Winds, famously
visited by Odysseus in Homer’s epic.
Lipari, the largest and most bustling of the islands, serves as an ideal starting
point. From here, set sail to Vulcano, famed for its striking black sand beaches and
invigorating mud baths. Stromboli, with its eponymous active volcano, regularly
performs a thrilling nightly display of magma fi reworks.
Salina offers a more relaxed pace with its verdant landscapes and rich history.
Drop anchor in Pollara Bay and snorkel above it's extraordinary underwater crater.
Panarea, the smallest yet most sophisticated of the islands, was in the 60s and 70s
a summer retreat for Italy’s bohemian elite. Today, it remains a car-free haven of
stylish boutiques, elegant hotels, and vibrant nightlife.
For ultimate seclusion, head west to the remote islands of Filicudi and Alicudi.
Here, you can fi sh for your dinner, enjoy a barbecue on deck, and a cold glass of local
wine amidst dramatic rock formations and crystal-clear waters.

PARADISE ISLANDS
BEST TIME TO VISIT FRENCH POLYNESIA: MAY TO OCTOBER
French Polynesia has been mesmerising visitors ever since it was visited in 1769
by Captain James Cook’s Royal Society expedition. A peppering of 121 lush
volcanic islands and atolls scattered across a nautical area the size of western
Europe, this French overseas territory is the epitome of paradise. A charter here
is a heady swirl of vanilla-scented jungle, talcum-powder beaches, crystalline lagoons and coral
reefs populated by a riot of marine life including parrotfi sh, rays, blacktip reef sharks, turtles, and
shoals of blue damselfi sh. From the jagged peaks of Moorea, where you might spot migrating
humpback whales, to the legendary island of Bora Bora, you will be greeted like a long-lost friend
by the local people who are, with good reason, among the happiest in the world.

Our CURATED charters offer boundless adventure, taking you beyond the ordinary to EXPLORE
the inaccessible with unmatched comfort and HYPER-PERSONALISED service
t Ocean Independence, we are redefi ning the modern superyacht charter.
With demand returning to pre-pandemic levels, we have responded to a
signifi cant shift in the way our clients want to approach their charters. The
biggest change? It’s not just about the yacht – it’s the journeys that count.
While traditional hotspots like the South of France and the East Mediterranean
remain popular, there is growing interest in more exotic locations such as Thailand,
Indonesia, and Patagonia. Clients seek extraordinary experiences and bespoke
itineraries in less conventional cruising grounds, where the journey itself becomes
the highlight.
The demand for sea-to-shore combined vacations has surged as clients seek to
maximise their travel experiences. Coupled with the increase in last-minute charters,
these trends underscore the critical need for hyper-personalised service from highly
responsive and knowledgeable consultants.
When it comes to selecting the yachts for their charters, our clients are
increasingly drawn to designs with a seamless interior/exterior flow, featuring
folding balconies, catamarans, and waterline activities such as beach clubs and
floating platforms for watersports.
Leveraging our global presence and extensive network of partners, we are fully
equipped to meet these evolving demands. At the heart of our approach are the
personal relationships we nurture with our clients, ensuring that our consultants are
always available to listen and execute each request fl awlessly.
To enhance our knowledge base, we actively engage in familiarisation trips, such
as recent expeditions to Antarctica, enabling us to offer expert advice and
recommendations drawn from lived experiences. We also invest in the growth and
development of our consultants, fostering a culture that emphasises both personal
and professional success.
We are dedicated to ensuring that each Client’s vision, values, and expectations
are not only met but exceeded. We have introduced carbon offsetting options for eco-
conscious travellers, encouraging and supporting more sustainable vacation choices.
Family operated, and with our global presence spanning multiple locations and
languages, and a diverse fl eet ranging from 20m catamarans to 86m motor yachts, we
are uniquely positioned to offer hyper-curated charter experiences.
Ultimately, our responsibility is to listen to the wants and needs of our clients,
and have the knowledge and bravery to push the boundaries of what is possible.
Whilst we will always follow our clients' wishes, our vision is to go beyond what they
could ever imagine. This is how we create truly unforgettable memories.

FRENCH POLYNESIA
The Antarctic Peninsula has captured the imagination for centuries. Ancient
Greek scholars speculated about the existence of uncharted territories to the
south for over 2,000 years before the fi rst confi rmed landing was made in 1895.
Ernest Shackleton and Captain Scott’s legendary expeditions served only to add to its mystique.
Today, it is possible to experience the Frozen Continent in absolute comfort on board a chartered
yacht, supported by a team of expert Antarctic expedition leaders. This charter off ers a truly
unique, life-changing experience. You can observe wildlife like the majestic emperor penguin and
17 other penguin species; spot colonies of seals, orcas, and whales; marvel at stunning glaciers and
the crystal-clear waters of the Weddell Sea, and visit active research stations.
OCEAN SAFARI
The Pacifi c Coast of Ecuador is often overshadowed by the Galapagos Islands,
Darwin’s evolutionary Eden 600 miles to the west. Yet Kontiki, the fi rst and only
superyacht in the region, enables exploration of this paradisical coastline,
revealing its own ecological wonders. Home to the largest remaining population
of oceanic manta rays; fi ve species of sea turtle; hammerhead and whale sharks, and 20 species of
whale and dolphin, the Pacifi c Coast of Ecuador is a fantastic location for an ocean safari. On land,
coastal trails lead through lush forests where black howler monkeys and vibrant bird species thrive.
With a focus on sustainability and authentic connections with local communities, a charter along
this magnifi cent coastline promises an enriching adventure that embraces both Ecuador’s wealth
of wildlife and its cultural riches.
BEST TIME TO VISIT ECUADOR: JUNE TO OCTOBER
Begin your journey in Salinas, Ecuador's "Capital of The Sun” famed for its vibrant
party atmosphere. Enjoy a welcome dinner on board your yacht and settle into
your stateroom before sailing overnight to Ayangue.
Snorkel with sea lions off the islet of El Pelado where you might spot humpback
whales (June–October). Discover pre-Inca Valdivia culture through a pottery
experience before sailing to Machalilla National Park.
Explore Machalilla National Park’s Agua Blanca community, uncovering Manteño
culture. Spot butterfl ies, hummingbirds, and experience a shaman-led purifi cation
ritual. Snorkel among the park’s islets before sailing to Isla de la Plata.
Explore Isla de la Plata's trails to see marine birds such as blue footed boobies
and frigatebirds before a guided snorkelling expedition to learn about the island’s
marine ecosystem. Sail to Pacoche/San Lorenzo.
Hike Pacoche’s tropical forest to see howler monkeys, then visit San Lorenzo's
marine turtle nesting spot. Learn about Toquilla straw hats – incorrectly known as
Panama hats – from local artisans before sailing to Manta.
After an extraordinary week of ecological adventure and discovery, say farewell
in the early morning before boarding your transfer to Manta’s airport or a hotel of
your choice.

In an age where exceptional travel goes beyond comfort, HEESEN Yachts’
innovative new builds blend CUTTING-EDGE TECHNOLOGY with a deep understanding
of the modern adventurer's DESIRE for EXPLORATION
ince the 1970s, Heesen Yachts has crafted custom-built
superyachts, setting new industry standards for luxury,
craftsmanship, and innovation. Now its next generation of
yachts is being engineered with a new audience in mind; one that
prioritises a sense of adventure.
In 2019, the award-winning Dutch shipyard launched the
XVenture, a 57m explorer yacht created in collaboration with Winch
Design, which set a new standard for yachts with its striking design
and rugged capabilities. Building on this success, Heesen has now
unveiled the XV67, a 67m superyacht that seamlessly integrates
luxury with exploration.
Described as a “cross-over” yacht, it is designed as a flexible
platform that can be customised to suit the Owner’s personal tastes,
lifestyle, and adventures. The XV67 features Heesen's innovative
performance technologies, such as the highly efficient Fast
Displacement Hull Form (FDHF) and a hybrid propulsion system.
Whether navigating Arctic waters or the Galapagos archipelagos, the
XV67 is engineered to handle it all.
The yacht’s design emphasises seamless indoor-outdoor living to
maximise the adventuring experience, with features such as a crow’s
nest offering panoramic views, a fully certified helipad that doubles
as an outdoor cinema, and the option to store large tenders or even a
personal submarine on deck. Engineered with a robust steel hull for
safe travel, the XV67 also maintains an elegant aesthetic.
Sustainability remains at the core of Heesen’s innovation. The
shipyard pioneered the FDHF back in 2010, optimising fuel efficiency
and ensuring smooth navigation in challenging conditions. In 2021,
Heesen launched BlueNautech, an initiative consolidating sustainable
practices across all its new builds. One key focus is hull efficiency,
combining the FDHF with lightweight aluminium construction,
thereby reducing fuel consumption and emissions by up to 30%.
These techniques are now applied to Heesen’s steel fleet, creating
lighter, more efficient vessels.
For owners seeking autonomy and long-range exploration, Heesen's
Hull Vane reduces drag and increases efficiency, extending the yacht’s
range by an additional 750 miles without extra fuel costs. Smart
technology also allows owners to manage lighting, temperature,
entertainment, and security via their smartphones, ensuring comfort
and safety at sea with ease.
At the heart of Heesen’s approach is the ability to deliver highly
personalised yachts reflecting the unique lifestyles and preferences of
their owners. Whether through bespoke builds or smart custom solutions,
Heesen collaborates closely with clients to bring their visions to life.
Despite its focus on adventure, Heesen never loses sight of
comfort. The XV67 offers a three-storey Owner’s suite, a sky lounge
with panoramic views, and a wellness area with a spa and gym.
Combined with the yacht’s near-silent hybrid propulsion system,
every journey, no matter how remote, is experienced in utmost
comfort. An adventure-ready superyacht as capable as it is beautiful
– this is the future of yachting.

ince its establishment in 1975 in Tuzla Bay, Istanbul — the
epicentre of Turkish shipbuilding — ART Shipyard has built a
storied legacy in commercial ship construction from the keel
up. This extensive expertise has facilitated its successful
transition into the refit sector, enabling it to emerge as the largest
commercial refit yard in Europe and the eighth largest globally.
And now, ART Shipyard has entered the luxury market with Bee
Yacht, a 35m explorer launched in
August. Designed by celebrated naval
architect and marine engineer Sergio
Cutolo of Hydro Tec, with timeless
interiors by Michele Dragoni of Dragoni
Design Lab, Bee Yacht demonstrates
the scale of ART Shipyard’s ambition.
“We
knew
we
wanted
to
do
something different, something unique,
and explore a new line of business, so we
wanted to build with good names,” says
Hüseyin Yardimci, Partner and board
member at ART Shipyard.
Whilst
expert
commercial
shipbuilders, ART knew to trust Cutolo and Dragoni with the design
of a luxury explorer yacht. “We believed in them and left the ball in
their court with the design,” says Yardimci. “In normal circumstances
we would add our own blend, but we trusted them to design an elegant
yacht that is useable for every aspect. It was a pleasure to work with
these people.”
At 35 metres, Bee Yacht is compact enough to be able to enter most
marinas and ports, whilst her full displacement round bilge hull and
best-in-class engineering enables an impressive range of 4,000 nm at a
cruising speed of 10 kn. Compliant with MCA and RINA Commercial
Class standards, Bee Yacht has great charter potential.
“Thirty-five metres is a handy size for exploring,” says Yardimci.
“We wanted to create a yacht with minimum crew – ideally five,
including the Master. If the Owner has the right qualifications, they
can manage and control this yacht themselves.”
With a durable steel hull, aluminium
superstructure, stainless steel anchor
chain
pockets,
and
zero-speed
stabilisers, Bee Yacht is engineered for
comfortable long-range cruising. “This
is not a day yacht; you can practically
live in it,” says Yardimci.
Indeed, Bee Yacht offers plenty of
space for up to 10 guests. The main
salon features ample seating, a spacious
dining area, and sliding doors leading
to an aft deck with a Jacuzzi and large
swim platform. The Owner’s stateroom,
with floor-to-ceiling windows, spans
the full 7.7m beam, while four guest staterooms on the lower deck
incorporate dove grey leather headboards and neutral leather accents,
each with an en suite bathroom.
The upper deck and sun room offer plenty of entertaining space
with a large dining table, lounge area, and fully equipped bar. On a
practical level, Bee Yacht also offers plenty of refrigeration and
freezer capacity, water storage, and space for toys for long periods at
sea. A new legacy for the ART Shipyard begins.
